Painting is a unique way of expressing myself, in which I am able to reach the viewer on various levels of perception. I aim to challenge the viewer to not just look at the piece, but to work with it. By consciously omitting unnecessary elements, and at the same time working out exactly the few details that explain a particular form, I almost force the beholder to step back and piece the components together from a distance. Only then the parts of the painting begin to make sense. When the complete vision is established in the viewer’s inner eye, then the time has come to take a closer look and explore how a seemingly random brushstroke here and there has helped to create that vision. In this manner I am able to project my personal philosophy that nothing can be viewed in isolation, but has to be seen in relation to its environment, in other words, “The Bigger Picture”, on a blank canvas. My paintings are meant to be a piece of décor designed to enrich the environment in which they hang. If the beholder of a piece of my art feels at peace by merely looking at it, I have achieved my goal. |
